Frequently Asked Questions

What types of footing do you recommend for dressage arenas?

There are four main types of footing material used:

1. Dirt-Sand Mix - popular for many Western disciplines. It offers a good balance of traction, rebound, and slide. The addition of sand to dirt can help maintain consistent texture and prevent packing.

2. Wood Footing - such as bark, shavings, and wood chips can be used alone or mixed with sand. They help retain moisture, reducing dust and maintenance needs.

3. Fibre Footing - Geotextile fibres, often made from shredded materials like carpet or tennis shoe rubber, are becoming more popular. When combined with a sand or rock sand base, fiber footing provides excellent traction, depth, and cushioning.

4. GGT (German Geo Textile) - combination of shredded textile fibers and sand has gained popularity for its cushioning and traction properties.

The best footing for a horse arena depends on the specific needs of the horses and riders using it. Factors we consider when providing a personalised consultation include:

a. Cushioning to reduce impact on joints

b. Traction for stability

c. Drainage capabilities

d. Dust control

e. Maintenance requirements

f. Cost and availability

We will advise you on the best footing for your horses and riding style.

How do you ensure proper drainage in your arenas?

We use a variety of techniques to ensure proper drainage, including installing drainage pipes and creating a slight slope in the arena surface.

What types of fencing do you use for dressage arenas?

We use high-quality fencing materials that are both safe and durable. We can also customise the fencing to match your specific needs and preferences.

What areas do you service?

We provide dressage arena construction services throughout mainland Tasmania.
